Win 30 Days of Free Yogurt from ES and Voskos

voskos

If you’ve been following ES for a bit, you know that one of our favorite dish-saving ingredients is a nice, fancy Greek yogurt. The folks over at Voskos caught on, and have challenged ESers to kick it up a notch.

Here’s the deal: send us your best recipe that includes yogurt — it can be a yogurt-centric dish or just a meal that was made complete by yogurt on the top. You can write your recipe in the comments, paste a link to a blog post, or email the recipe to info (at) endlesssimmer (dot) com, with “yogurt contest” as the subject line.

An esteemed panel of judges will pick the winning recipe, and one reader will receive 30 (!) free samples of Voskos’ rich, creamy yogurts (in the form of 30 free product coupons mailed directly to you). Contest is open from today through Friday, September 17.

Bulk Bin #3387

mystery grain

That’s all I got. #3387.

Ever since I cleaned out my fridge before vacation I’ve been on a kind of cleaning kick. It’s in spurts. And tiny spurts at that. But it’s better than my normal.

Yesterday as I searched for a grain for dinner I came across a ton of half empty bags. I’ve recently started saving glass jars. Jars from salsa, capers, tomato sauce, anything really. If I can get the label off after a dishwasher run then it’s a keeper. In a frenzy I whipped out my funnel and poured bags of arborio rice, lentils and quinoa into their own more shelf-stable (I think?) containers.

And that’s where I came across #3387.

I seriously cannot identify that thing.

I know we’ve asked a lot of you this week: what to do with garlic scapes, the best way to eat strawberries and how to get drunk off popsicles, but I really need one last favor.

There’s a jar and a sticky waiting for #3387. Help the grains find their home.

Endless Contests: We Have a Donut Winner!

12390004_b9a6bdc9eb

The donut is already darn near close to the perfect food item, so when we threw down the gauntlet to our readers to come up with the greatest donut combo ever assembled, it was no small task.

The folks at Dunkin” Donuts were running a contest that was a little more closely tethered to reality, and it looks like they came up with some fantastic suggestions that you can vote on in the hopes of seeing them turn up at your local store.  Of course, we loosened the constraints a bit and let you add any ingredient you wanted, and you certainly pokies 88 didn”t disappoint.

Though the thought of a cardamom/vanilla buttermilk donut or a bananas foster version were fantastic, we had to hand it to reader Alex, who took the already indulgent donut and turned it into a cholesterol bomb of epic proportions:

Lightly glazed plain donut (whole wheat flour? Can you do that? For fiber) filled with creme de brie and homemade, fresh blueberry jam. The glaze is largely for sticking the crushed hazelnut topping to the donut. It’s kind of like a personal-sized baked brie.

Good to see that you worked in the whole wheat “for fiber.”  We wouldn”t want this to be unhealthy.

Congratulations, Alex, a brie donut sounds delicious.  Your $60 Dunkin’ Donuts Gift Card is on its way!
