Cheflebrity Smörgåsbord

Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone!  You know…it’s that day where everyone expends time and energy playing hilarious practical jokes on completely unsuspecting friends and colleagues.  It’s AWESOME.

On a completely unrelated note, I have some good news!  I’m proud to announce that I will be getting my very own show on the Food Network.  It’s going to be called The Voracious Blogger and, instead of actually cooking, I’m just going to go around and make smart-ass, critical comments about food cooked by actual chefs.  ‘Cuz that’s what we bloggers do…amIright?!?!

– In addition to the news about high-profile chefs at the new Yankee Stadium, we get word that there will be a number of Food Network stands at the ballpark.  Word is that there will be appearances by Food Network talent, too.  I can’t wait until they have Robert Irvine there so he can talk about his six years as a backup third baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland A’s.  Oh, wait…that didn’t really happen?

– Anthony Bourdain fully expects to make waves with his next book, which he’s calling “a post–Kitchen Confidential look at how the industry has changed.”  Let’s not kid ourselves…you know you’re going to buy it.  Just try not to embarrass yourself at the book signing, OK?

– Speaking of Tony…what happens when he realizes that nemesis Rachael Ray is also a fan of the pre-“Hot, Hot, Hot” Buster Poindexter/David Johansen-led proto-punk legend New York Dolls?  Confusion ensues, and threats of fruit baskets and dead puppies abound.  As for the fruit basket, it looks like Rachael beat him to the punch

After the jump…a new way to get your Colicchi-fix and this week’s obituary.

An Open Letter to Padma

Dear Ms. Lakshmi,

I really hope that things are going well with you.  I only ask because, at the risk of being too blunt, I’m a little bit worried about you and your cash flow.

I was under the impression that you pretty much had it all.  You’re the host of the most popular food program on television.  You’re a successful model.  And you’ve even written a cookbook.  That’s amazing!  I’d guess that you’d probably be just rolling in cash.

Again, not to get too personal, but I’m not sure how much of an impact your recent, high-profile divorce may have had on your finances.  How does British divorce law work?  Apparently, your Ex is pretty well known, too, although all I really know about him is he doesn’t have many fans in the Middle East, that he had a cameo in that Renee Zellweger movie and he may or may not frequent saunas in Manhattan.  So, my guess is that it turns out to be a push financially.

Despite having all this going for you, (and the whole serial dating of billionaires thing) I get the feeling you may be short on money…

Cheflebrity Smörgåsbord

tom.jpg

We’re happy to debut a new feature here on Endless Simmer.  The Cheflebrity Smörgåsbord will give you a quick look at the assorted gossip, news and general hubbub in the world of celebrity chefs, food television and culinary entertainment.  You can think of this as the Extra or Daily Ten of our usual content.  While it may not be our most in-depth and cerebral commentary, I can guarantee you that there will be absolutely no Debbie Matenopoulos.

– CELEBRITY FEUD!?!?!  Well, maybe not, but foodie fave Grant Achatz took a swipe at Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio’s Diet Coke commercial.  And he did it via Twitter!  How very high-tech.

– Speaking of Top Chef, you can get a close-up look at one of the cheftestants as the Top Chef Tour comes to your neck of the woods.  Score some tickets and you get to meet the chef, sample some food and take come pics.  For a description of Spike (and his hat) with photos from last year’s tour, check out the write up from the charming and good looking blogger who ran TVFoodFan.com

– The new Yankee Stadium, set to open this spring, announced a huge selection of food choices that will feature selections from a number of high-profile NYC personalities including Iron Chef’s Masaharu Morimoto.  There is no truth to the rumor that the large amount of food available at the ballpark is the result of a clause in C.C. Sabathia’s contract.

James Beard snubs ES again, and the Food Network keeps trying, after the jump…

The new food-lebrity? She’s coming up a lot lately.

– Thanks to everyone for your awesome advice on how to be a wine snob:

JoeHoya: Either of these should work, depending on how you’re feeling:

“You can call a wine red, and dry, and strong, and pleasant. After that, watch out…”
-Kingsley Amis, Everyday Drinking

“It’s a bold wine with a hint of sophistication and lacking in pretension. Actually, I was just talking about myself.”
-Meg Ryan, French Kiss

Maids: I recommend that you use the word viscosity a lot. that shows true wine snobbery

Tim: Getting hyper-specific on the color is a great way to sound smart w/o any real wine knowledge.
Also, just like a shitload of fruit that the wine reminds you of. If you can’t taste anything, just make it up. Start with “grapes” but always insist that there’s a hint of juniper berries in the back. Do the same thing with the smell, only refer to aromas as being “on the nose.” Decide if it’s acidic or mild and report your decision snob-ily. Also decide if it’s more thick/cloying or thin/slick on your mouf. This is mouffeel.

Blog Boy for Life

Everyone knows that deep down, all movie stars secretly want to be rock stars, but did you also know that all rock stars really just want to be food bloggers???

It’s true! First John Mayer started photographing his lunch; then there was Cooking with Coolio. Now, none other than Sean Combs Puff Daddy Puffy P Diddy Diddy is using the interwebs to share his daily eating habits with the world.

In the first installment above, diddy begins by vehemently insisting that THIS IS NOT A BLOG, and then goes on to spend three minutes mumbling about how he can’t decide if KFC or Popeye’s is better. Um, yep, that’s a blog, dids!

After the jump, diddy scolds the Popeye delivery man for attempting to sway his vote with a free bucket, and simultaneously just happens to mention that KFC hasn’t sent anything free yet.

– Wow. I have to say I’m a little shocked that so few of you want me to make my own sous vide machine, but the ES community came down firmly on the anti-botulism side of things, with 67 percent of you voting against any sous vide tomfoolery.

– I think we can all agree we’re anti-Padma Lakshmi shilling for Hardee’s. KMango: Ew. Padma, please pack your knives and go anywhere but Hardee’s!

-No Obama sightings yet, but ESers did have some close calls. Maids: friend of mine saw Michelle Obama heading into the Dupont North Cosi. Liza: I saw Jill Biden at Nora’s Restaurant… does that count for anything?

– Lastly, I’ve been trying really hard to follow up 80p and TVFF’s beer puns but I’m drawing a blank. Come on people, we can’t abandon a good pun war after the second go!

Celeb Chef Caught With Her Pants Down

Hey, I know you wanna see some footage of a female Food Network star’s ass, right?

Giada?  No.

Aida?  Nope, not her either.

CatIngridRobinSandraSunny?   No, no, no, no and no.

How about Paula Deen?  For reasons that escape logic, that butter-loving maniac was showing off her butt at the South Beach food festival and, well, gravity did what gravity has a habit of doing.  Fortunately, there was someone shooting video of the whole episode, so now you can watch it and be so emotionally scarred that you’ll never be able to eat dumplin’s again.
