Top 10 Cutest Food Halloween Costumes

Endless Simmer’s second favorite holiday is right around the corner (sorry, but candy or no candy, Halloween can’t compete with Turkey Day). To get us all ready for trick-or-treating, we’ll spend the next two weeks looking at the funniest/sexiest/scariest/weirdest Halloween costumes we can find —of course, they will all feature food.

Up first, for all you sickos who use Halloween only as an excuse to torture your babies/dogs/kittens, here are The Top 10 Cutest Food Halloween Costumes:

Two For Five = Mizuna

eggplant-salad-1-600-x-398.jpg

I usually frequent the farmers’ market by myself, but this weekend I got 80P out of his hangover-I-want-bed mode and took him with me.  And this resulted in the purchase of radishes.  They had samples out and it’s kinda weird because they’re spicy.  Anyway, we now have like 5 fucking radishes and I have no idea what to do with them.  80 says he used to eat them as a kid with salt, but um, there must be something else out there.  I’m thinking I could use them as a alternative to a chip for a dip.  But any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyway, this post has nothing to do with radishes.  And don’t you think radish should have two “d”s in it?

Even though a lot of the workforce likes to go out for lunch during the week, I love bringing my food.  No shock there.  For today’s lunch I took full advantage of my market purchase, including these funky greens that 80 also added to my cart: mizuna.  We were just going to buy a bunch of mustard greens but then the upseller said there’s a special: 2 bunches for $5, so 80 grabbed mizuna.  Um, yea, I know, what the eff is mizuna.

I risked the safety of not only the baking sheet, but of my entire apartment building,

Feed Us Back: Comments of the Week

When I tried to slide my *Laughing Cow* usage under the radar, Yvo made sure to bring it the cheating (?) attention it deserved, especially after commenting on my coworker’s questionable usage of deli meat in a frittata

Wait, I’m sorry, don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re actually turning your nose up at “deli meat” and eggs, but then you use Laughing Cow in your own version? Really? Come on, now.

And my co-worker, Yok, bravely defended her turkey decision

Being the above-referenced co-worker, I feel I must defend our topping choices. We had a variety: sun-dried tomatoes, havarti and monterey jack cheeses, sauteed onions and roasted turkey. The turkey was inspired by a 30-minute meal episode for a large frittata- not that that gives it a “pass”- I thought…interesting. It gave an awesome complexity of flavor so don’t knock it ’til you try it!

But nothing beats the wisdom of DAD GANSIE…

ES Has a Religious Experience (About Food, Of Course)

This summer, I took at little break from food-blogging to go explore my birthright in the Holy Land. While other trip participants got excited about being away from their parents for the first time, swimming in the Dead Sea, and joining the Israeli army, I clearly was just in it for the food. Broadandpattison has already told you about omni-dip, so here are a couple more Israeli food shots (sorry for the massive delay – have been waiting for pics from my travel companions)…

Jerusalem marketplace –  olives, pickles, and olive’d and pickled everything

eggplant-thing-closer-up.jpg

Got this at a lunch counter in Tel Aviv – no idea what it’s called. It’s an omelet topped with diced veggies and fried eggplant, and stuffed in–what do you think–a pita.

While we’re on the subject of pita, I have to talk about how they eat falafel…
