Liberty Kitchen Austin Chef's Salad

Food Porn Champion: The Ultimate Meat Salad

Liberty Kitchen Austin Chef's Salad

Look at that. Would you call the above photo a salad or a giant pile of assorted meats and cheeses? Turns out, you’d be right either way.

This is the FeedTX Chef Salad (menu description: “chilled greens, cheeses, rotisserie meats, bay shrimp salad, hot smoked salmon, egg, avocado, tomato, cucumber”) at Liberty Kitchen, a popular Houston restaurant that recently opened another location in Austin. They feature all sorts of decadent meat and seafood dishes, and even a salad is not really a salad. I was disgustingly full after about half of this bad boy. I mean, “meats”… okay, there’s pork belly, turkey, chicken, bacon, and not to mention a giant hunk of smoked salmon AND shrimp salad. Talk about some protein.

School House Pub Cheese Board

Food Porn Champion: A Drool-worthy Cheeseboard

School House Pub Cheese Board

If there’s anything I love in this life, it’s a cheese board. And this is an especially gorgeous one, the “National Map of Cheeses,” hailing from School House Pub in Austin, Texas. Fancy fromage, local fruit marmalade, Texas honey, whole grain mustard, and fresh herbs. What’s not to LOVE?! This shot even got picked up off my original Instagram and featured on a cheese board Instagram (lol what, yes, there really is such a thing) so apparently I’m not the only one who thinks this is one gorgeous piece of work.

Heirloom Tomato and Fried Egg Pizza ABGB

Food Porn of the Day: Fried Egg is a Glorious Thing

Heirloom Tomato and Fried Egg Pizza ABGB

Why not follow up last week’s pizza porn with yet more pizza porn? This pie hails from Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. in – you guessed it – Austin, Texas. And yeah, this isn’t the first time I’ve blogged about fried egg on pizza, but hear me out.

This bad boy was served in the middle of a sunny beer garden, fresh from the oven, topped with fresh basil, portobello mushrooms, goat ricotta, caramelized onions, and the most perfect fried egg you’ve ever seen, complete with velvety liquid yolk. It’s best enjoyed with a cold craft brew (may I suggest ABGB’s Day Trip Pale Ale). After seeing/tasting this beauty, why would you ever NOT order a fried egg on your pizza?

This Exists: Poutine Burger

Poutine2_sm

It pretty much had to happen.

We’ve seen poutine potato skins, poutine tater tots and poutine just about everything. A few years ago it was just an obscure French-Canadian specialty, but now it’s America’s favorite over-the-top comfort food.

And now, Hopdoddy Burger Bar in Austin is serving a burger topped with a full serving of poutine: French fries, gravy, cheddar cheese (although apparently, NOT authentic curds) and for good runny measure, a fried egg too.

Take that, Canada. Anything you can do, we can do unhealthier.

Clarks Oyster Bar Austin

Food Porn of the Day: Oyster Paradise

Clarks Oyster Bar Austin

Let’s give into springtime. A sunny patio. Crisp, cold pilsner. A platter of fresh oysters. What could be nicer?! Clark’s Oyster Bar in Austin offers one of the most picturesque set-ups and atmospheres to enjoy your mollusks.

Sushi Zushi Tropical Roll

Food Porn Champion: This Vegetarian Sushi Doesn’t Suck

Sushi Zushi Tropical Roll

You’d think that vegetarian sushi sounds depressing and boring, but just look at this one. The Tropical Roll at Austin’s Sushi Zushi is made with asparagus, avocado, cucumber, carrots, sprouts and cream cheese rolled uramaki style, wrapped with mango, and topped with sriracha. Not depressing at ALL.

Whislers Sweet Potato Cocktail

Cocktail O’Clock: I Yam What I Yam

Whislers Sweet Potato Cocktail

We’re nearing the end of winter, but there are still more cozy cocktails to be sipped! Before the spring sun comes back, snuggle up to an inspired s’mores-ish cocktail, made with sweet potato (yes, sweet potato!) shrub. This recipe comes from Whisler’s, one of Austin’s favorite craft cocktail bars. (And one of my personal favorite places to grab a drink and some spicy Thai food!)

I Yam What I Yam

1.5 oz Butter-Infused Flor de Cana 7yr
.5 oz Milletti Amaro
1 oz Sweet Potato Shrub
2 dashes of Fee Bros Black Walnut bitters & 1 dash of Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas bitters

Shake and strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass.  Garnish with toasted marshmallow.
