Time for a Mudslide…on a Stick

Fall is almost here and with that we are letting up on the fruit in the Poptails-a bit. But what we are not letting up on is the booze.

Get your mixing hands ready for this mudslide with a twist. We went and added a banana in the mix. The sweetness of the banana neutralizes any tang the vanilla yogurt body may have, and adds a bit of creaminess to the mixture. While we were at it, we also threw in some grated chocolate for added flavor and texture.

There you have it, enjoy your Endless Simmer twist-up of the traditional mudslide, in a Poptail.

Top Chef Just Desserts Exit Interviews: Episodes 3 and 4

We’ve got TONS of TCJD content to round out this Friday, as we chat with the three latest chefs to hit the chopping block.

Last week, the chefs were given the challenge to create the ultimate table of dessert wonderment for Lisa Vanderpump  from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star. We chatted with the chef-testant who didn’t make the cut — plus heard from this week’s loser — after the jump.

Dirty Pirate Popsicles

We have thing for getting sideways with classic cocktails and then turning them into poptails. This week the classic rum and coke has been flipped to a Dirty Pirate.

That’s rum and coke with a some Kahlua. While we’d love to take credit for this awesomely name cocktail, we can’t, but we are taking credit for turning it into poptail ,at the suggestion of a co-worker.

Pirates, Coke and booze, yeah, Wednesday is getting better already. And just in case you need a variation, replace the Kahlua with peach schnapps for a Dirty Pirate Hooker.

Play nice and play safe. Happy Pirating this Wednesday.

Now This is a Pudding Pop

White Russian and Black Russian Poptail

Since it’s a short work week, we thought we”d celebrate with a twofer, by filling your requests for both a White Russian and Black Russian Poptail in one post.

We used homemade pudding as our base for the cocktail-turned-popsicle. For those of you who need your Poptail STAT — find your quick fix by using a small box (3 1/2oz) of instant pudding. Keep in mind that whatever variation you use, they won’t release as easily as some of the other poptails,  so if the popsicles come out with a few rough edges, get busy and start licking.

Now for the non-sequitur of the day. . . We’re opening our test kitchen up for the upcoming spooky day celebration. Have a Halloween cocktail or idea you want to see Poptail’d? Shout it in the comments.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Rice Krispie Squares

Time to celebrate back-to-school season with some kid-friendly, no-bake goodness. But since we couldn’t keep our busy hands alone with the just the classic Rice Krispie treats, we threw a few extra add-ins for a scaled-up version.

Don’t worry  — we didn’t get too complicated. What we did do was add was some peanut butter and chocolate, plus some bananas to cut through the richness, and because three is never a crowd when it comes to those flavors.

So yeah, sit back, have a few bites, and go ahead — wipe your mouth on your sleeve.

Endless Poptails: Caipirinha Popsicle

We’ve been keeping things simple, easy and familiar here with our Poptail series. But this week we are inviting a less familiar boozy guest, cachaca.

Start digging in the couch cushions and under the car seat like we did for spare change. You need this pure sugar cane rum in your life. More to the point, this is a must-try sweet and tart Poptail made easy with a limeade body,  raspberry sweetness and a sour punch of kumquats.

Now for a little housekeeping.  We’ve decided that since we still have a few orders to fill, we’re extending the Poptail series past what some people tell us is the end of summer. But not forever! Holla your order now or wait until next year for your Poptailing dreams to come true.
