1-Minute Dessert: Sea Salt Chocolate Cherry Cake

Some days are chocolate cake days.
When you drop your stud earring on the floor, then step on it thumb tack style.  That’s a chocolate cake day.
When you leave your keys in your car and the engine running and it takes you like half-an-hour to realize it and run back outside in a panic.  Um, chocolate cake day.
When your boss is out of town and the phone rings about 20 times.  And every time it’s him.  Yeah, get you some chocolate cake for that day.
All of these are possible reasons why you need to shove this cake in your face.
But you don’t really need a reason.

Crispy French Toast Strawberry Shortcake

My car stereo has been on the fritz this week.  So, unless I listen to my iPod with one earphone in (for safety, people), I’m kind of forced to think on the way to and from work.  Let me just preface this by saying that I’m really weird.  But whatever.  I embrace it. Well, what I have been thinking about lately is tweeting.  More accurately, I have been thinking about tweets I would tweet if I tweeted.  I don’t have Twitter, nor do I have any desire to.  But, still, this is what is on my mind:

Does {the rapper} Pitbull have any actually albums of his own?  It seems like he is on everyone else’s songs.  Does he have time to do songs alone?  How does he sell records?

***

I raced home and put my swimsuit on the other day and I totally did not even get in the pool.  I felt really loser-y sitting around in a non-functional swimsuit.  It’s like putting on a prom dress and sitting on the couch.  What the heck?

***

What would happen if you combined cornflake encrusted angel food cake French toast with roasted strawberries and made a play on strawberry shortcake?  Um, my head might explode.

***

That last fake tweet was clearly onto something.

Cocktail O’Clock: Mango Coconut Mojito

I am not, nor have I ever been, a bartender.  I love mixed drinks, though.  And I’m super cheap, so I would much rather make drinks at home than pay upwards of $8 a glass on a super-sugary and not-alcoholic-enough drink.

Now, I promised myself a while back that I would not buy any more coconut rum because it’s too easy to consume in mass quantities and regret it later.  Buuuttt…I guess I break promises.

So, here’s a tropical drink to rock your socks.

Feta is Betta: Spinach and Feta-Jalapeño Dip Turkey Burger

Well, it’s about that time to start firing up the grill for backyard barbeques. I love a good burger, but turkey burgers have a special place in my heart belly, also.
This turkey burger is a gem that I offer you to impress your friends and family. It is moist and flavorful with the lovely tang of feta. Like I always say, “Feta makes it betta’.”
If you aren’t crazy about ground turkey, ground chicken or beef would be good in this recipe, also. Or at least make the feta dip and dip some pita chips in it. Because you’re worth it.

Fast Food Fixation: Homemade Doritos Crunch Wrap

Have you ever made something amazing in the kitchen that made you literally do a happy dance? This is happy dance evoking.
I don’t really go to fast food places.  I know that might sound a little blasphemous…like one of those people who say they don’t own a TV.  Sorry, but it’s the truth.  I do, however, see commercials for fast food (because I own a TV).  Some of it catches my attention and I feel like I have to recreate it.
I’ve been making crunch wraps basically since they came out at Taco Smell Bell.  They are more awesome when you make them at home, I’m sure (I actually don’t have anything to compare it to…never actually tried them at Taco Bell…hmph).  Lately, though, I have been seeing the Doritos shell tacos commercials and I gotta say, “I wants it in mah belly.”  Food cravings clearly make me talk like a crazy person. So, I thought: why not marry the two ideas and make a homemade Doritos Crunch Wrap?! You’re welcome, world.
Ok, this is really super easy, and it is mostly about assembly.  So let’s do this.

Surpise Soul Mates: Strawberry Snickerdoodles

Strawberry and cinnamon are not obvious soul mates.  They are not like peanut butter and chocolate. They are the couple who when you find out they’re a couple, you go, “Really?” But then you see them together and see their chemistry, and you are like, “Ok, I see it now.”

I just thought I should let you know that you will have a revelation like this one when you eat these cookies. I’m usually a chocolate girl when it comes to cookies, cakes…well, desserts in general, I guess, but I make one exception and that is for snickerdoodles, especially these ones. Imagine a soft, pillowy mound of sugary goodness studded with juicy strawberries and lightly sprinkled with cinnamon sugar flavor.

Holy crap, they’re good.
