– Liz Hurley’s farm may be producing jerky, but that dress ain’t no Green Acres get-up.  ROWR!

– Last week, while at work in my office in Philly, I had an eerie feeling overcome me…chilling me to the bone.  Yep, that explains it.

After the jump…picking on Ray-Ray gets a little bit harder, Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story 2 tries her hand at baking and all of your craptastic adventures in the kitchen could pay off in a TV appearance.

November Madness: Jalen Rose’s Fab Five Food Finds

7632_156639897640_122635457640_2524028_118792_n

Woo-hoo for November 9th! In case you don’t know, this week marks the tip-off of Endless Simmer’s favorite sport, drunk college food-off, er…NCAA college basketball season!

To make the occasion, we asked Jalen Rose, member of the University of Michigan’s legendary Fab Five team, to put on his restaurant critic hat and share a few of his favorite food finds from around the nation. The 13-year NBA veteran is now an ESPN/ABC studio analyst, and in his free time he can be found blogging, tweeting, Facebooking and YouTube-ing. Take it away, Jalen!

I wouldn’t consider myself a food critic, but during my years as a professional basketball player, I was lucky to travel the country and eat in many fine establishments. Below is a list of my Fab Five Foods and where you can find them. All of these dishes are original — I haven’t found another restaurant that prepares these items in the same way. If you get a chance to check them out, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do:

1. Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse (Chicago, IL) – Double Baked Potato… so good its bang is worth every buck – this is one big spud!

2. Philippe (Upper East Side New York, NY) – Maine Lobster Satay… lobster is my favorite dish and this is my favorite lobster on a stick… not only is the satay great, the peanut sauce is so good that you can almost drink it by itself!

– Thanks everyone for all the great pumpkin recipes. I’m especially intrigued by Breda‘s:

Someone brought a baked pumpkin to a potluck dinner I hosted. Basically carve off the top but keep it as a lid and I’m not too sure on quantities/timings but cinnamon, brown sugar and almonds were thrown into the pumpkin and pop the pumpkin into the oven with the lid on for a “long” time and then scoop out the pumpkin and serve as a sweet side…….it was really good!

Woah! Keep the pumpkin ideas coming, please!

– Meanwhile, Summer catches the important details in Michelle Obama’s Iron Chef debut:

Clearly Michelle favors Mario — she picked her dress to match his trademark orange clogs. Can’t say I blame her. I love him too.

– Finally, Joel has the last say on the Top 10 food finds at the Iowa State Fair:

What’s wrong with canned chicken? It’s the tuna of the land.

Well said.

The latest and greatest news about celebrity chefs, served up buffet style.

– Joe Bastianich celebrates the completion of a marathon the same way I do: with plenty of booze.  Of course, he actually ran in the marathon where as I just read about it in the news.  Also, after losing 45 lbs, Joe apparently turned into a completely different person.  (Compare the photo above to this one.)

-ZOMFG liberal foodies’ heads are exploding everywhere today with the news that MICHELLE OBAMA will actually appear on Iron Chef. This was in the New York Times today, so apparently it’s not a joke.

– Click through to find out about Emeril’s new burger bistro.  Also to find out where Joe Bastianich’s 45 pounds went.

After the jump…an Olympian goes another round, Fox prepares to ruin another English import and a former Top Cheftestant goes whole hog.

Top Chef Exit Interview: Episode 10

natandtom

It’s kind of eerie how similar Top Chef episodes are becoming to my wildest fantasies. This season has been filled with some of the most interesting challenges, iconic guest chefs and talented contestants, but this week Bravo outdid themselves:

Natalie Portman making a guest appearance and Padma talking dirty. Tommy C, you are a lucky man my friend. Oh and I think there was some excellent, veggie-friendly food too.

Now for a SPOILER ALERT after the jump..

Cheflebrity Smörgåsbord: Don’t Bug Rachael Ray!

The latest and greatest news about celebrity chefs, served up buffet style.

Rachael Ray‘s event at a New York school cafeteria had an unexpected, six-legged special guest!

– Apparently, the sign of a true foodie is your participation in a web-only mini series.  Tony Bourdain goes the animated route while Tom Colicchio and Todd English talk style for Diet Coke.

After the jump…more Top Chef news than you can shake a stick at and a story about Jeffrey Steingarten, who you would probably like to beat with that stick.
