When Caffeine Actually Makes You Forget
Do you know what I don’t fucking suggest: drinking coffee cocktails until 2 in the morning.
My dear friends Tim and Alice hosted a holiday drinking fest. They displayed an amazing liquor selection: whiskey, Kahlua, Bailey’s, vodka, bourbon, kirschwasser and um, lots of things I don’t care to remember. And, there were a bunch of lighter additions as well: lots of fresh citrus and allspice. With all of those options, we felt quite ambitious. We made eggnog from scratch and it was not so cute having to beat the egg whites to a soft peak and then adding sugar to beat it with a stiff peak — without an electric beater. We passed around the bowl to a few friends as our arms burned of whisking overdose.
I wish I could expand on the night. But the combination of coffee and alcohol for hours on end is not a combination I suggest. (Although I do suggest trying these popsicles. I’m dying to know if they are as good as they sound.)
I asked Tim to pass me the ingredients to his especially delicious cocktail but of course, he couldn’t remember. He promised to try a few days later.
The Combination of Coffee and Alcohol
4 parts coffee (4 oz)
2 parts bourbon (2 oz)
2 parts brandy (2 oz)
1 part irish cream (1 oz)
1 part coffee liqueur (kahlua) (1 oz)
cinnamon stick
dash nutmeg
pinch allspice
fresh whipped cream (or substitute a small scoop of ice cream)
I’m guessing I wasn’t around for this part of the party.
Sounds delicious.
I don’t usually have coffee/alcohol drinks, except at weddings with an open bar, where it’s fun during the cake/coffee period to snag a few fingers of whiskey from the bar and make a DIY Irish Coffee. Just because they aren’t serving after-dinner drinks doesn’t mean I can’t make one myself.
I keeps it classy.
two things. not only was i drunk while drinking the coffee cocktails but i was drunk while blogging this post. my apologies.
also, one of the best parts of this cocktail was the cinnamon stick. i drank the cocktail through the stick so every sip was deliciously cinnamon. plus, i love straw and straw-like devices.
Sounds like you’re still up on a caffeine fix. What us kirswasser??
@dad
kirschwasser is a german cherry brandy. i originally bought it for fondue.
