From a recently received press release:
More and more consumers are getting creative when it comes to their food—and not just what they eat, but how they eat it! Mason jar salads are particularly a popular trend on Pinterest with healthy eaters easily able to transport their salad creations on-the-go. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but also a healthy solution to many commuters, travelers and busybodies on the move.
No. No. No. Fine, cocktails in a jar can be cute, but it’s overdone. (Keep my beer in a pint glass please.) We decried this trend when it moved on to desserts in a jar three years ago. Now SALADS have to be in a jar too? Apparently this “healthy trend” is not limited to Pinterest, but coming to a restaurant/store near you. Please tell me exactly how jars make salads easier to transport. Who has ever thought, “gee, that tupperware works great, but I wish it could more fragile and also five times heavier?” I’m sorry, people. Eat your goddamn salad on a goddamn plate. And if you start putting my entrees in a mason jar…just expect broken glass.
From bars to peeps to ice cream and well, everything, if there’s a new way to eat s’mores, we’re into it. Today’s s’mores mashup comes from Emily Pizza in Brooklyn, where their wood-fired pizza dough is re-used as an encasing for a S’MORES CALZONE, filled with lots of gooey chocolate and marshmallow, with a graham cracker crumble on top. Yes.

If you’re anything like us, your New Year’s resolutions involve drinking…such as drinking more refreshing cocktails this year. Here’s a perfect one that Haru Boston dreamed up just for the season. This month they’re serving a cucumber gimlet, a rejuvenating drink made with fresh cucumber, lime wedges, cilantro leaves and homemade simple syrup. Oh, and vodka…I mean, it’s not that new of a year.
3 lime wedges
5 cilantro leaves
1 pinch of cucumber, peeled & julienned
.5 oz. simple syrup
2 oz. Purity vodka
1 cucumber slice, for garnish
1) Muddle lime wedges, cilantro leaves and cucumber with simple syrup in a mixing glass.
2) Add vodka and ice and shake 8-10 seconds.
3) Fill a rocks glass with ice and strain into glass.
4) Garnish with a cucumber slice.
No, it’s not witches’ brew. Who can guess why my pasta water is so purple?
