Endless Poptails: Bloody Mary Popsicles

Thanks to last week’s commenter, Angela, whose request for a Bloody Mary reminded us that being in cruise control sucks. With that, we decided that, hell yeah—let’s interrupt the summer sweet series with a savory Bloody Mary Poptail.

To start things off, we used heirloom tomatoes, because well, that’s what is in our backyard right now.If you don’t have any in season where you are, regular tomatoes will work just as well. Or for complete ease of mixing, skip the fresh tomatoes for some tomato juice and adjust the flavor accordingly. Whatever you use for the body, don’t forget the chili powder.

We guarantee you that this chili powder infused Bloody Mary on a stick will be a summer addiction to remember.

Endless Poptails: Cherry Apple Whiskey Sour

We ESers like our whiskey combinations and we’re betting you will too. Never mindful of the rules, this week we created a blasphemous bartending nightmare by skipping the shaker for some rotating blades. Yep, everything is headed for the blender including the whiskey. Um, please muffle all outraged screams until you have tried this. Along with the whiskey are some sweet cherries, tart apples and a lime to create a popsicle that will assist you with obtaining your daily fruit serving.

So while we may not be rule-minded we’re a thoughtful bunch and giving you two options for your whiskey. Sip it in a whiskey cocktail or get a lick of it in these Cherry Apple Whiskey Sour Poptails. Of course we recommend you try both.

Sweet Potato Cashew Bourbon Milkshake (Yes, That is All One Thing)

What’s that you say? Our avocado milkshake recipe wasn’t crazy enough for you? Well hold your mofo horses, because it’s time to turn sweet potatoes into a shake — and add a little bourbon along the way.

Chef Thomas Dunklin of B&O American Brasserie in Baltimore — the same guy who gave us the deviled egg we are most likely to make love to — was kind enough to share his amazing/insane sweet potato milkshake recipe with us. It’s pictured above with the red velvet donuts that he serves it with, and the full recipe is below. Fair warning — this one is a process-and-a-half to make at home, but you probably guessed that.

Endless Poptails: Cucumber Honeydew Margarita Popsicles

Grab some popsicle sticks, get the tequila and leave the drunk dialing to others. We’re turning our tequila shots into a frozen Honeydew Cucumber Margarita.

But before your fingers start strumming your keyboard with inquiries as to whether or not the alcohol portions are strong enough, let us save you time and say, maybe it is, but then again maybe not. Luckily poptails are highly adaptable. Your palate, your preference — pour and mix your poptail to suit your taste. Just remember there’s a reason alcohol won’t freeze alone. Stiff drinks are meant to be consumed by the glass, not by the bite. Our proportions here err on the side of tasty over tequila-y.

Next time you’re tasked with bringing something to a party, let us suggest a tequila’d poptail that won’t leave you fearfully scrolling through your call history the next morning.

Endless Poptails: Watermelon Mojito Popsicles

Tweaking a trend can either make you a hero or a target. Luckily, we ESers are a hardy bunch — so yeah, we’re gonna mess with the beloved Mojito by freezing it.

But before you go bucking it, let us say that from sip to lick the frozen Mojito can confidently double down over its fluid counterpart and take you from cool to sublime faster than you can say freeze! Now that you know we’ve got our Teflon suits on, give it your best lick and let us know what you think.

PS – have a cocktail you want to see turned popsicle? Hit us up in the comment section because you’re currently tuning into our newly started cocktail popsicles series, a.k.a. Poptails. We’ll be featuring a new cocktail on a stick every Wednesday up until Labor Day. Enjoy.
