Yes, it’s not a BLT, but a BLK! It’s so crazy, it just might work. The good folks at Zespri Kiwifruit sent me an email of kiwi recipes and this was one of their ideas – at first it seemed a bit controversial, but kiwis have kiiiinda similar textures to tomatoes, plus that zingy bite. Not too sweet or mushy. And I do love incorporating as much tropical fruit as possible into my summertime meals… another bonus for easy summertime cooking, when you don’t want to spend hours slaving over the stove – this takes about five minutes to make. Two thumbs up, kiwi friends!

Cocktails Gone Spherical

Now that “handcrafted” cocktails have become about as commonplace as craft beer, bartenders and bloggers are looking for new ways to impress. You might think molecular mixology is gimmicky, but you gotta admit that these 8 cocktail spheres look pretty amazing.

1. Old Fashioned In the Rocks

At Grant Achatz’ Aviary in Chicago the old fashioned comes neat — very neat. Drinkers get to smash the sphere open and watch the drink explode out.

2. Spherical Pickleback

Just about every bar in Brooklyn now serves a pickleback (a shot of whiskey backed by a shot of pickle juice). Only Do or Dine—home of the foie gras donut—serves a molecular pickleback, whereby the back — the spherical ball of pickle juice — explodes inside your mouth.

Summer is here with all its mighty heat, and we are doing more than just cranking up the AC to stay cool. We are stripping down to the flesh and getting dirtied-up with some rum. Yes, we are totally talking fruit and Poptailing here.

If you’ve been with us from the start of this Poptail series, you know we are taking classic drinks and getting a bit topsy-turvy with them. Along with that we’ve tried to avoid expensive ingredients and stuck to the basics for the alcohol portions so you don’t have to choose between a Saturday night date and your boozy Poptail.

This week we’re claiming the daiquiri for some freezer fun. We’re ditching the cocktail umbrellas and pitching the curvy bottom glass. These daiquiris are getting a shake up and cool down in a popsicle mold.
