Endless Poptails: Watermelon Blackberry Margarita

Anyone know if the five-second rule applies to popsicles? It would seem that a perspiring popsicle would probably pick up more microbial friends than say, a fallen cupcake, right? Hmm, it would seem, but to be safe — if your poptail falls on the floor, give it a quick run under cold water and then pour some tequila over it. Fallen poptail saved.

Three days later — no ill effects. I feel fine. The takeaway is that you really can eat off my kitchen floor. In case you’d rather not, you can make your own margarita poptail with this recipe using watermelon, some limeade and a few blackberries for a punch of tartness. And of course, don’t forget the tequila and triple sec. Once you do make this you’ll see why I refused to let my fallen poptail go to waste.

Watermelon and Blackberry Margarita Poptail

Makes 14 2-and-1/4-oz. popsicles

Ingredients:

  • 20 oz. watermelon (1/2 a small watermelon)
  • 3 oz. blackberries (7-9 regular sized berries; not the giant obscene ones that are the size of a thumb)
  • 4 oz. limeade
  • 4 oz. tequila
  • 2 oz. triple sec

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until well blended. Pour mixture into popsicle wells.
  2. Cover top of popsicle form with foil and cut a tiny hole in the center of each well. Place popsicle stick through the hole.
  3. Place in freezer until frozen. To release popsicles, run hot water over  outside of mold for 2-3 seconds.

LOL Makes perfect sense … all alcohol serves as a disinfectant, right? 😉 I will definitely be making these poptails … brilliant flavor combo!

This looks great and sounds so good. The heat is bad in our part of the country and this is exactly what I need.

someone did a scientific study (i forget who, i saw it ages ago on PBS) about the ten second rule, and found that it is valid everywhere except in bathrooms.

that said, i’d rinse off the cat hair 🙂 and these sound amazing!!

Question–Is the limeade the type made from frozen concentrate? Do you make it first (dilute it) or use the concentrate as is? I made these and they are freezing now, but I used the diluted concentrate and they seemed a bit watery when I tasted them. I’m sure they will be delicious but I wonder what would have happened had I used the concentrate straight from the can.

These Popsicles are a great idea. What do you do with the mint syrup? Hope that is not a dumb question.

This sounds incredible! I made jalapeno margaritas this weekend and they were delish. I bet they’d be even better as popsicles. I know alcohol doesn’t freeze, so how much is too much? Is there a certain ratio of alcohol/juice I should use?
